How accurate is BreathTech?
A reading produced by BreathTech is only a guide to your actual blood alcohol
concentration (BAC). The accuracy of a reading will depend on:
- The conditions of use (refer to owner's manual for optimum operating
conditions);
- the age of the unit; and
- the condition of the unit
Even under optimal conditions, accuracy may be as much as 20% more or less
than your actual BAC.
The BreathTech doesn't turn on
Check the batteries and in particular make sure the polarity is correct.
How do I clean the BreathTech?
Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents.
When I first turn on the unit why does it count
down from 14 to zero?
If it has been more than one hour since the last operation, the unit begins
a 14 to 0 warmup countdown. The sensor must be warmed up properly to report
accurate readings. Therefore, always disregard the results following the
initial 14 0 warmup countdown.
SAT flashes in the
display
This means the sensor is saturated. Saturation occurs when alcohol moisture
is present on the sensor from a prior use, or after a long period of
inoperability. Without this feature the unit would display inaccurate results.
Simply reactivate the unit to perform another warm-up cycle. Repeat this
process as many times as necessary until SAT no longer appears.
This may require 15-20 cycles.
How hard should I blow into the
vent?
Blow from between your lips, as if gently cooling a spoonful of soup. A distance
of no more than 10-20 mm between the vent and the mouth is suggested.
Always blow into the unit in a consistent manner. Different blowing conditions
may produce different results.
What is %BAC?
BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) is the amount of blood in the bloodstream. Having
a %BAC of 0.10 means that a person has 1 part alcohol per 1,000 parts blood
in the body.
Does blood alcohol continue to rise after my last
drink?
Yes, blood alcohol concentration can continue to rise for up to 2 hours after
your last drink.
Should I drink and drive?
We do not recommend drinking and driving. If you are going to drink alcohol
always have a non drinking designated driver. Do not drink and drive.
